The Quorn producing fungal genome and annotation of Fusarium venenatum and comparison with close relative Fusarium graminearum

Fusarium venenatum is a fungi of world-wide economic importance because it is rich in protein and fibre, commercially used to produce the meat free mycoprotein product, Quorn, developed to provide a growing demand for sustainable sources of protein. First mistaken for Fusarium graminearum which is a mycotoxinproducing pathogen, however Fusarium venenatum is not. Comparative genomics may help to identify mechanisms that Fusarium venenatum is not pathogenic to wheat or produces mycotoxins, in addition to a resource for increased Quorn production development.
