A sex of birds is genetically determined. However, a sex-determining gene linked to W chromosome is unknown. To identify the W-linked gene and non-coding RNA involved in female-sex (ovary) - detemining, we compared the mRNA- and smRNA-seq data obtained embryonic gonads of Emu between sexes and developmental stages.
