Digital Regulation and Firm Productivity: Evidence from a Quasi-Natural Experiment in China

The replication folder contains 3 subfolders, which contain all materials necessary to replicate the tables and figures reported in the paper and Online Appendix. Specifically, we have done the following work regarding replication data. (1) We have created a detailed Readme.pdf file. This document provides a full description of all raw data files, the overall structure of the package, and a step-by-step guide to executing the code. (2) We have elaborated on every data management step in the “Data subfolder” section of the Readme.pdf file, including data cleaning, merging, appending, and the creation of all new variables used in analysis. (3) As our original data is subject to third-party licensing restrictions, we have created a fully synthetic dataset that mirrors the structure and properties of the original. This synthetic data contains all variables used in our analysis and preserves the same number of observations. We have ensured that all variables in all datasets are clearly labelled in English. (4) We have provided a master script (MainCode.do) that runs all analysis scripts in the DoFiles in the correct sequence.
