The indexed book of newspaper cuttings may have started out as a reference book, similar to sheriff's notebooks, judging by the type of entries recorded in the index. Items include matters about bankruptcy, book debts, crown lease, expiry of writs, possession (of goods), witnesses and policies of the day. The earliest entry is 1900 but there is a gap of nearly 30 years to the next entries/newspaper cuttings about sheriff's business continuing to 1961.The second book consists of only newspaper cuttings dating from 1961 to 2003. Articles include the first female jurors in 1971 - this was an issue raised in the 1920s but not addressed for nearly 50 years; many items concerning Ronald Ryan's execution complete with cartoons of the day, an interview with convicted murderer William John O'Mealley, sheriff evictions for the recovery of debts and freeing police from the collection of debts.
