Genome sequencing of chemically mutagenized Drosophila melanogaster lines with aggressive behavior. Drosophila melanogaster

We discovered that group-housed male flies incur wing damage as a consequence of aggressive behavior. Using this easy-to-score phenotype, we performed the first EMS-induced mutagenesis screen to identify fly lines with increased aggression. We then used whole-genome sequencing to identify the underlying genetic alterations in our candidate lines. The final causal mutation responsible for the altered aggression was confirmed by mapping strategies.
