Treatment of [Pt(L2)(η2-C2H4)] (L2 = dppe or (PPh3)2) with H3SiSiMe2tBu at room temperature afforded the corresponding trigonal bipyramidal clusters [Pt3(L2)3(μ3-SiH)2]. In the case of L2 = dppe, the octahedral cluster [Pt4(dppe)4(μ4-SiH)2] and the spiro-type cluster [Pt4(dppe)4(μ4-Si)] were also generated when the molar ratio of the zerovalent platinum complex to the disilane was increased.
