We use a soil-P budgets (SPB) method to present a comprehensive assessment of temporal trends in soil-P deficits spanning the period from 1970-2017 for 10 crop categories in 90 countries and regions. Here, P budgets in cropland soil were calculated by summing the P inputs (mineral fertiliser, manure, irrigation water and pesticides) and subtracting the P removed by harvested crops, crop residues and P leaching.
