VPRS 14439 Register of the Establishment of State Schools

There are one or two lines of information about each school. The column headings are:Roll No. (also known as school no.)Name of SchoolHow vested (established under which School Board)Inspector's DistrictName of Teacher (usually the Head or Assistant Head Teacher)The first pages of the volume include a list of abbreviations for types of National and Denominational schools (eg, Protestant, Baptist etc). There is also a list of abbreviations for entries in the "How vested" column.Other information includes the distance from nearby schools, and dates of opening and closing. There is sometimes a number in the form 89/1065 (this appears to be reference to letter of appointment in an Education Department correspondence series, however it is subject to further research).A printed list of half-time and rural schools has been stuck inside the back of the volume. (Rural schools had previously been assigned numbers such as R94, which under the new system became 1350, Burnt Creek School.)Further numbers in red and blue alpha-numerics may be references to earlier numbering systems (as mentioned above), however, these are subject to further research.
