Based on multiple publicly available datasets, this study constructs a comprehensive framework for the water resources carrying capacity (WRCC) of the five Central Asian countries (CA5) from three dimensions: water resources availability, per capita comprehensive water consumption, and water resources carrying capacity. It conducts assessments of sustainable water utilization for CA5 in 2015 and 2020, scientifically clarifies the carrying thresholds and overloading risks of WRCC in these nations, and quantitatively reveals the national-level differences in their water resources carrying capacity.
