Complete mitogenome sequence of Anopheles gibbinsi from Nchelenge, Zambia

The importance of understudied mosquito species as potential vectors in malaria transmission is now being highlighted when well established malaria vectors are close to elimination. Anopheles gibbinsi has expanded its geographic range to Southern Africa and tested positive for P.falciparum sporozoites in Kenya. Due to challenges with morphological identification and taxonomic rectification of species belonging to the Anopheles genus, this study seeks to capture mitogenomes from Anopheles gibbinsi which has proved to be useful in rectifying taxonomic discrepencies when compared to use of traditional barcoding genes.
