Monastic Fonds on Monasterium.net: An Overview of Statistical Explorations

This repository contains the underlying datasets, summary tables, and generated visualizations used for exploring monastic fonds, their religious orders, and metadata characteristics across the Monasterium.net platform. The data was compiled as part of a collaborative research contribution examining digital religious history through large-scale metadata analysis. Please note: The data represents heuristic approximations and exploratory statistical overviews rather than a fully verified census. This dataset accompanies the forthcoming research article: Sébastien Barret, Johannes Laroche, Niklas Tscherne, Georg Vogeler, Explorations numériques sur l’histoire de la vie religieuse dans le portail Monasterium.net, in: Quaderni di storia religiosa medievale 29 (2026), p. 417-451 [Forthcoming]. If you use this dataset in your research, teaching, or digital projects, we would be very keen to hear from you. Please feel free to reach out to the authors to let us know how the data is being utilized or if you have any feedback!
