资源简介:
This analysis consists in two parts. In Chapter 1, I construct the dependent variable; the politicization of EU trade agreement negotiations, from 2009-2019. Using search interest, media salience and parliamentary scrutiny, I make indexes of salience and contestation, and a 'politicization' column which is the minimum value of these two. This is based on the logic that both contestation and salience are necessary conditions for politicization. I also map the 'trajectory' of politicization based on the relative value of each of the three original variables. In Chapter 2, I test the various explanations from the field individually against both the level and trajectory of politicization and conduct a multiple regression analysis including all variables. The findings indicate that there is no strong explanation for politicization across the board, and this motivates my search for a better explanation.
