Gut and oral microbiota in patients with obesity and/or ischemic heart disease

This study aims to elucidate the complex interplay between obesity, ischemic heart disease (IHD), and alterations in the gut and oral microbiota, conditions that collectively contribute to a substantial global health burden. By integrating anthropometric and biochemical assessments with advanced 16S rRNA sequencing of oral and gut microbiomes, the research seeks to uncover specific microbial signatures and dysbiosis patterns associated with these cardiometabolic disorders. Understanding these associations is of high clinical relevance, as it may reveal novel microbial biomarkers and therapeutic targets, ultimately contributing to improved strategies for prevention, risk stratification, and management of obesity- and IHD-related complications.
