Plaque depicting Aphrodite

Light red-brown tone with mica. The plaque has two continuous mounting holes on the left edge. The lower part of the relief has broken off. The plaque, pulled from a worn mold, has been recut in a modern way. Depicted is a naiskos with twisted columns, a gable crowning with a shield in the tympanum and a shell niche. A naked Aphrodite stands frontally in the naiskos, who, in the Anadyomene type, raises both bent arms and grasps her loose hair. The type of this plaque is documented in better specimens in Egypt. Based on these examples, the slab is to be supplemented in a semicircular manner at the bottom, corresponding to the upper end. A tabula ansata or an inscription scratched before the firing could then have been written in the lower end.
