The anaerobic mixed culture C2-2M has the great potential in industrial fermentation of 1,3-propanediol using crude glycerol as substrate. 1,3-propanediol can be produced as the main product in this mixed culture with acetate and butyate as by-products. A final 1,3-propanediol concentration as high as 85.21 g/L was obtained in fed-batch cultivation with a productivity of 1.73 g/L h.
