Microbial and viral regulation of community carbon cycling across diverse low-oxygen zones. marine metagenome

We propose to compare pelagic microbial and viral communities across diverse marine oxygen minimum zones (OMZs). Sequencing will target communities in two prominent end-members in the spectrum of OMZ types, the anoxic, nitrite-rich OMZs (AMZs) of the Eastern Tropical Pacific (off Mexico and Chile/Peru) and the seasonally hypoxic “deadzone” on the Louisiana Shelf. These OMZs are oceanographically distinct from one another.
