Dataset from Rhythmic coordination in rapid duets of little crakes: cooperative signalling without shared experience

<p><strong>Dataset description — Temporal structure of vocalizations and playback experiment in little crakes (<em>Zapornia parva</em>)</strong></p><p>The dataset is provided as a Microsoft Excel <code>.xlsx</code> file containing four worksheets. Each sheet includes data related to the temporal structure of vocalizations or responses recorded in a playback experiment involving little crakes:</p><ol><li><strong>Natural duets</strong></li><li>This sheet contains data on the temporal structure of natural duet vocalizations recorded from little crakes.</li><li><strong>Natural solos</strong></li><li>This sheet contains data on the temporal structure of natural solo vocalizations produced by individual little crakes.</li><li><strong>Playback solos</strong></li><li>This sheet contains data on the temporal structure of vocalizations naturally added by male little crakes in response to artificially generated solo playbacks. The playbacks were created by removing one bird’s vocalizations from natural duets. These artificial solos were broadcast to new individuals, whose spontaneous vocal additions (resulting in new duets) were recorded and analyzed.</li><li><strong>Playback experiment</strong></li><li>This sheet contains data from a playback experiment testing the responses of little crakes to two types of duet playback treatments:</li></ol><ul><li class="ql-indent-1"><strong>Regular duet playback</strong>, featuring natural duet vocalizations with a regular, consistent temporal structure.</li><li><strong>Irregular duet playback</strong>, featuring duet vocalizations with an artificially manipulated, irregular temporal structure.</li><li class="ql-indent-1">Behavioral and vocal responses to these treatments were recorded and are included in this sheet.</li></ul><p><br /></p>
