Dataset of Riverine Nitrogen and Phosphorus Fluxes to the Coastal Zone of Fujian Province, China (2010-2024)

This dataset systematically compiles the riverine fluxes of total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), and ammonia nitrogen (NH4-N) for 12 major rivers discharging into the coastal region of Fujian Province, China, spanning from January 2010 to December 2024. The rivers encompassed are Min River, North Jiulong River, West Jiulong River, Jin River, Ao River, Long River, Zhang River, Jiao Stream, Huotong Stream, Mulan Stream, Zhao'an East Stream, and Qiulu Stream. This dataset comprises both monthly and annual fluxes. The calculation of monthly flux is based on the concentrations at downstream water quality monitoring site and monthly discharge. A catchment area ratio serves as a correction factor to adjust the monthly discharge from corresponding hydrological stations to the river outlets. Subsequently, monthly fluxes are obtained by multiplying the measured concentrations by the adjusted discharge. For bimonthly monitoring sites, missing monthly concentrations are interpolated using the arithmetic mean of concentrations from the preceding and following months. Annual fluxes are derived by summing the monthly fluxes of the corresponding twelve months, while the annual watershed nutrient yield is obtained by dividing this annual flux by the watershed area. This dataset offers a comprehensive characterization of the nutrient fluxes transported from the freshwater reaches of the rivers to the estuarine zones. As a vital foundational resource for integrated watershed - coastal research, it supports the assessment of riverine nutrient loads to the coastal sea, the analysis of marine water quality, and the formulation of land - sea coordinated management strategies.
