The study aims to address changes in microbiome composition during human experimental challenge with S. Typhi and S. Paratyphi A. An additional objective is to address changes in microbiome composition during secondary challenge. The data genererated should inform further studies relating to response of the normal microbiota during challenge with an enteric pathogen and the response of the the microbiota to antibiotic treatment against the challenge organism. The ultimate goal is to extend these findings to design similar studies to areas where typhoid is endemic and antibiotic therapy is widely used.
