Porphyromonas gingivalis strains isolated from healthy and chronic severe periodontitis individuals

Porphyromonas gingivalis is a member of the subgingival biofilm. While P. gingivalis is found in healthy individuals (in low abundance), is associated to the disruption of microbiota homeostasis leading to periodontal diseases. Here, we isolated two P. gingivalis strains, one from a patient exhibiting chronic severe periodontitis (CP3) and another from a periodontally healthy individual (H3). Since CP3 strain exhibits a higher virulence in vitro compared to H3, we are aimed to determine if differences in virulence of these two strains are due to variation of specific genes involved in the pathogenic mechanism. Therefore, we have determined the whole genome sequences of P. gingivalis CP3 and H3 strains.
