In Pakistan, S. Typhi strains with XDR and quinolone-resistant have been a major public health issue. Laboratory surveillance data collected in 2011 revealed a sporadic ceftriaxone resistance in samples collected from Karachi and since November 2016, a large portion of ceftriaxone-resistant cases have been reported specifically in the city of Karachi and Hyderabad. This highlights the need to explore the mechanistics of emerging resistance of S. typhi strains.
