Voltzite (BIRUG 996) is a variety of Wurtzite: a zinc iron sulphide mineral (Zn,Fe)S. It was named in 1833 by Joseph Jean Baptiste Xavier Fournet after the French palaeontologist, metallurgist and mining engineer Philippe-Louis Voltz. This particular specimen displays a botryoidal crystal form (literally 'grape-like') and was collected from Cornwall, England. It now forms part of the Museum's McLean Collection, donated by W.
