Novel insight into the role of ACSL1 gene in milk preduction traits in buffalo

Water buffalo served as the 2nd largest milk producer following dairy cattle. Improving the species’ milk yield while maintain its high milk quality is the major challenging for the breeding system. Identifying genetic markers associated with milk production traits would facility the genome selection establishment in buffalo. A total of 12 SNPs are identified in Mediterinian buffalo long-chain acyl-CoA synthetases gene (ACSL1), 10 of which are associated with 1 or more milk production traits.
