Between the 20th and 23rd January 2025 the Cambridge Archaeological Unit (CAU) undertook a field evaluation by trial trenching at the Botanic Gardens, Cambridge (centred TL 45717 57337), on behalf of the Estates Division, University of Cambridge. The evaluation identified an approximately east–west aligned linear ditch of unknown date. A stratigraphic sequence of deposits of c.0.90m depth was encountered which comprised two soil profiles separated by a thin horizon of made ground or geological upcast. The lowermost of these soil profiles contains pottery and clay pipe of 19th century date. The digital archive comprises the WSI, the Evaluation Report and OASIS form, the context register, finds catalogue, and original photographs included in the report; and the final site plan.
