Metaphyton community and biochemical analysis of neurotoxic cyanobacterial mats in Lady Bird Lake, Austin, Texas (August 5, 2019)

For the first time in the history of Austin, Texas, a toxin-producing cyanobacterial bloom was documented on August 3, 2019 after several dog deaths were reported to City staff. These data represent the first samples taken on August 5, 2019. Individual cells/filaments of microalgae were isolated for genetic and biochemical characterization. Genetic identification was performed using 16S rRNA PCR barcoding and Sanger sequencing. Toxins were detected using LCMS. The following dataset contains the raw and processed data for the DNA sequencing and biochemical evaluations.
