Approximately 7% of AOB strains can be enriched from different environments under laboratory conditions. In order to elucidate the ecology of chemoautotrophic ammonia oxidizing bacteria, it is necessary to isolate various ammonia oxidizing bacteria from different terrestrial and aquatic environments and conduct comparative studies. Evaluating the physiological and biochemical characteristics of new AOB strains is beneficial for deepening the understanding of these bacteria.
