This dataset comprises over 6,000 1024×1024 pixel images, containing over 300k unique wheat heads along with corresponding bounding boxes. These images were collected from 11 countries/regions, covering 44 unique measurement sessions. A measurement session is defined as a set of images acquired using a specific sensor at the same location within coherent timestamps, typically within several hours.

Compared to the 2020 Kaggle competition dataset, this work includes 4 new countries, 22 additional measurement sessions, 1,200 new images, and 120k new wheat heads. Such a substantial amount of new data will help improve the quality of the test dataset.

The 2020 dataset was annotated by researchers and students from 9 institutions across 7 countries. This additional dataset has been annotated by Human in the Loop, an ethical AI annotation company. We hope these updates will facilitate the development of the most robust algorithms!

The task is to localize all wheat heads present in each image. The objective is to obtain a model that exhibits robustness against variations in shape, lighting conditions, sensor types, and capture locations. Bounding box coordinate sets are provided for every image.

The training dataset consists of images acquired in Europe and Canada, totaling approximately 4,000 images. The test dataset is composed of images from North America (excluding Canada), Asia, Oceania, and Africa, covering around 2,000 images. This dataset features 7 new measurement sessions available for training, while the test set includes 17 new measurement sessions!
