A dataset of scientific references on saline wetlands of Monegros, NE Spain

The Monegros region, located in the Central Ebro Valley (CEB) expands on parts of the conterminous provinces of Huesca and Zaragoza, Spain. Outstanding traits of Monegros are the aridity and the abundance of gypsum in the soils. Moreover, the Miocene lutites contain other salts more soluble than gypsum. The salts often are evapoconcentrated in closed depressions, locally named saladas, in the municipalities of Sástago and Bujaraloz. The waters at these athalassohaline playa-lakes and other small depressions use to be more saline than the sea, and their soils are both gypseous and hypersaline. Withal, the saladas are threatened shelters of biodiversity that have been studied by naturalists from years ago. We present a dataset of disperse references gathering a bunch of natural traits of these saladas.
