资源简介:
Background: Benefits from home-based physical therapy programmes are conditioned to the proper execution of the exercises during unsupervised treatment. Different types of instructions, such as videotaped demonstrations and brochures, may influence patient performance at home. Methods: A total of thirty healthy volunteers (mean age of 31 years) had their movements captured with wearable inertial sensors, after video recordings of five exercises with different levels of complexity were demonstrated to them. Participants were then randomised to receive videotaped, written or illustrated instructions, along with wearable sensors for a second unsupervised data capture at home. Movement consistency between the participants’ recordings was assessed with metrics of movement smoothness, intensity, consistency and control. Results: Irrespective of group allocation, subjects executed all the exercises consistently when recording at home and as compared with their performance in the lab. However, all the considered modes of instruction were ineffective in setting the pace, as participants executed all movements faster compared to the demonstrated video footages. Conclusion: Since patient performance is unaffected by the type of the prescribed instructions, healthcare professionals may recommend material based on patient preference in order to improve satisfaction levels. A wearable system with real-time performance metrics and feedback would better aid in therapeutic exercises that ought to be performed with appropriate intensity and range of motion.<br>
