资源简介:
The dataset contains two subsets of original data (emulated HHDCs in the form of NPZ files) used for the development and verification of lossless compression methods: CASALS and 1x1. Both CASALS and 1x1 tensors represent the same forested area. Nevertheless, their samples are simulated with different settings that correspond to different data acquisition conditions. Each subset consists of 13027 NPZ files. NPZ is a file format that is used to store compressed NumPy tensors.
The raw LiDAR data, being the source for the emulated HHDCs, centered on the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC) in the state of Maryland (Latitude 38.88° N, Longitude 76.56° W) are available at NEON (National Ecological Observatory Network) website: Discrete return LiDAR point cloud (DP1.30003.001), RELEASE-2024. https://doi.org/10.48443/hj77-kf64.
The considered hyper-height data cubes (HHDCs) with application to spaceborne LiDaRs represent the waveform altimetry profiles and capture comprehensive information about the three-dimensional structure of a scene. This representation ensures further easy extraction of such features as canopy height models, digital terrain models, etc., after passing data to on-land centers for their further processing.
The dataset was created within the joint IMPRESS-U project entitled ”EAGER IMPRESS-U: Exploratory Research on Generative Compression for Compressive Lidar” co-funded by U.S. National Science Foundation NSF under Grant No. 2404740, Science & Technology Center in Ukraine (STCU) Agreement No. 7116, and National Science Centre, Poland (NCN), Grant no. 2023/05/Y/ST6/00197.
The dataset has been used for the development and verification of lossless compression methods presented, i.a., in the paper:Makarichev V., Lukin, V., Vasilyeva I., Okarma K., Ramirez-Jaime A., Arce G.R.: "Lossless Compression of HyperHeight LiDAR Forested Landscapes Data", 29th International Conference on Methods and Models in Automation and Robotics (MMAR), Międzyzdroje, Poland, 26-29.08.2025.
