Lightning NOₓ Enhances Oxidants and Atmospheric Warming during the South Asian Pre-Monsoon Season

This study obtains lightning flash count data from the Lightning Imaging Sensor (LIS) aboard two satellite platforms: the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM, 1997–2014) and the International Space Station (ISS, 2017–2022) at a spatial resolution of 4 km. 2-meter air temperature and planetary boundary layer height data are retrieved from the ERA-5 reanalysis datasets. Surface pollutant concentrations from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) of India stations. Numerical model simulations are carried out to undertstand the role of Lightning NOx in shaping the air quality and climate.
