Tissue samples of Eschrichtius robustus (Gray Whale) used for transcriptome sequencing and assembly. The animals were caught by hunters of the indigenous population of Chukotka Autonomous Okrug (Mechigmen Bay of the Bering Sea, Lorino) who have permission to hunt this species for food. Tissue biopsies were taken at the time of aboriginal hunting; no animals were killed specifically for this study.
