Chemoenzymatic approaches to backbone modified peptide natural products

This thesis describes the investigation of novel methods for the generation of bioactive peptides. To overcome the disadvantages of current synthetic methods which are costly and environmentally damaging, we use enzymes in key steps to afford environmentally friendly routes to complex peptides. In doing so, the research described in this thesis allows access to a wide range of chemical structures. Ultimately, the tools developed will be used to produce novel antimicrobial peptides, contributing to the fight against antibiotic resistance.
