Dataset OverviewThe “Corrected Sea Surface Wind Field Forecasting Dataset over the Northwest Pacific in 2023” is a set of wind field datasets generated by correcting Global Forecast System (GFS) forecasts using ECMWF Reanalysis v5 (ERA5) reanalysis dataset as a reference. It covers the Northwest Pacific region (3°N–42.75°N, 100°E–139.75°E) across 0–120 hour forecast lead times in 2023, aiming to support academic research on sea surface wind field prediction, air-sea interaction, and operational weather forecasting improvement.2. Data Generation MethodologyThe dataset is derived from a systematic correction framework, complemented by ablation experiments to validate loss function designs:(1) Input Data: Raw 10-meter zonal wind, 10-meter meridional wind, and mean sea level pressure forecasts from GFS (spatial resolution: 0.25°×0.25°, temporal resolution of forecast outputs: 24-hourly, initialization times: 00:00, 06:00, 12:00, and 18:00 UTC) and reference wind fields from ERA5 reanalysis (same resolution, as the “truth” benchmark).(2) Correction Methods:(a) UVP_PE scheme: 10-meter zonal wind, 10-meter meridional wind, and mean sea level pressure are outputs, alongside its regression loss and an equation constraint loss term (to enforce wind-pressure dynamical consistency).(b) UVPS_PE scheme: Extends the UVP_PE scheme by adding a regression loss for wind speed.3.
