Iron starvation spot plate assay for wild type and heme oxygenase (HMX1) deletion mutant <i>S. boulardii </i>strains. To investigate the effect of iron starvation Synthetic Defined (SD) agar medium was supplemented with 40, 80, and 120 μM iron chelator bathophenanthroline (BPS). Strains were inoculated in triplicates. Cell number was set to 0.5 McFarland, then isolates were inoculated in 4 x 10 μl dorplets, each containing cells in 10x dilution series (approx. 50 000, 5000, 500, and 50 cells).
