Documenting historic buildings damaged by the Quadstate tornadoes in December 2021

The 2021 Quad State Tornado outbreak, an EF-4 event with a path length exceeding 250 miles and wind speeds over 190 mph, provided a unique opportunity to assess the performance of historic buildings across multiple states in the American Midwest. This study developed a comprehensive dataset by documenting over 200 historic buildings located within a 2-mile radius of the tornado paths. The dataset was compiled through post-disaster field investigations and archival research, focusing on the original construction materials, techniques, and any modern interventions or retrofits of these historic structures.
