HWCM+ADCIRC model simulations

We implemented the use of a newly developed model based on the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model- the Hybrid WRF Cyclone Model (HWCM)- to create a large number of synthetic tropical cyclones affecting the Mid-Atlantic Bight. The HWCM allows for the creation of tropical cyclones of similar characteristics and for a degree of control of the cyclone landfall location. The simulation design allowed for the comparison of the effect of storms approaching the coast at different angles. We investigated the role of tropical cyclone impact angle on storm surge. The HWCM tropical cyclone simulations were used as atmospheric forcing to the ADCIRC storm surge model.
