Cocooned AGN are a new population of AGN selected with MIR properties indicative of powerful quasars comma but quiescent galaxy-like optical spectra comma including weak-to-absent CORCHETE_OPENOIIICORCHETE_CLOSE emission. This is likely due to AGN youth or virgul4 pi covering factor obscuring material enshrouding the AGN comma but the existing minimal X-ray data has been insufficient to differentiate between these scenarios. We propose a targeted campaign of 8 of the brightest CAGN in our sample. An XMM-Newton exposure quasi-simultaneously with NuSTAR is sufficient to make this distinction comma even up to Compton-thick levels of obscuration comma with parameter degeneracies. These observations are essential to determine the emission mechanism responsible for the CAGN and hence push towards a complete census of black hole growth evolution.
