Municipal solid waste (MSW) presents a significant environmental challenge due to its high volume and potential for contamination and its complex mix of organic and inorganic contaminants necessitating innovative remediation strategies. Bioremediation, using microorganisms to degrade pollutants, offers a promising approach for MSW treatment. This study explores the application of the bacterial-assisted electrokinetic (BAEK) technique for MSW bioremediation and leveraged whole genome sequencing (WGS) to enhance the understanding of elucidating the microbial communities and functional potential within MSW. The BAEK process combines the mobilization of charged species through an electric field with bacterial degradation, enhancing the remediation efficiency.
