资源简介:
This series consists of correspondence files created under a classified multiple number system in which file numbers were determined by a Registry Catalogue Index (see VPRS 7958). This system was formally introduced into the Metropolitan Transit Authority (VA 1044) on 28 February 1986, although there is evidence from the Inward Correspondence Registers of the Tram and Bus Division (see VPRS 7777) that the establishment of some files may date back to November 1985.The multiple number system was composed of a hierarchy of primary, secondary and tertiary classifications or subject headings with corresponding numbers, from which file titles and file numbers were to be derived. Files would mostly have a three level number and title, eg. 1000/78/2 = Administration-Records Management-General.This new system was to be used throughout the Authority and controlled by the M.T.A. registry (ie centralized control of files), however, the physical location of most files was to be within the Divisions or Departments of the agency where action on the files was routinely required (ie decentralized location of files). It is presumed that at each location the files were arranged in numerical order by file number. It is not clear to what extent this system functioned throughout the agency although it is apparent that the MetRail Division was not using this system, for after it was discontinued in April 1988, the system then used by the MetRail Division was adapted and implemented throughout the Authority. The P1 consignment of this series comprises only a handful of files established within the system. It is possible that many others were top-numbered into the subsequent filing system although this could not be determined at the time oftransfer.
