Forest height is extracted from the Global Forest Canopy Height 2019 dataset at 250-meter spatial resolution (aggregated from native 30 meters) derived from NASA GEDI (Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation) LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) (gedi.umd.edu) (env.datasets = “forest_height”). This layer provides spatially explicit estimates of canopy height as a structural measure of habitat complexity and shade availability (Potapov et al., 2021).
