Recently Phytophthora diseases become serious because newly introduced horticultural plants are vulnerable to the diseases under high humid and temperature climate in summer of Japan. New agricultural systems like hydroponic culture also induce the disease caused by zoosporic Phytophthora species. At Hydrangea (local name “Ajisai”) nursery in Tochigi Perfecture, some plants showed stem rot on the basal parts. Phytophthora like isolates were obtained from the rotted stems. In this study, the isolates were identified by molecular phylogenetic analyses and morphological and physiological characteristics.
