Antimicrobial resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae isolated from patients attending STI clinics in Lusaka, Zambia

Antimicrobial resistance of Neisseria gonorrhoeae is a threat to public health, as strains have developed resistance to antimicrobials available for treatment of gonorrhoea. Data on molecular epidemiology of N. gonorrhoeae is sparse in Zambia. This study aimed to determine the genetic diversity of N. gonorrhoeae isolated from patients attending STI clinics in Lusaka, Zambia. Isolates were sequenced and genotyped for AMR and virulence by the Fleming Fund SeqAfrica project, a UK Aid funded initiative to strengthen AMR surveillance in Africa.
