This record describes the End of Voyage (EOV) archive from the Marine National Facility (MNF) RV Southern Surveyor transit voyage SS 01/2003, titled "Subduction east of Australia from 120-45 Ma: search for the missing evidence in the eastern Lord Howe Rise, New Caledonia Basin, Norfolk and Three Kings Ridge Region." The voyage took place from Hobart to Auckland (NZ) between February 21 and March 13, 2003 (UTC).\n\nFor further information please refer to the lineage statement and voyage documentation links below.\n\nThe archive for the SS 01/2003 EOV raw data is curated by the CSIRO National Collections and Marine Infrastructure (NCMI) Information and Data Centre (IDC) in Hobart, with a permanent digital archive at the CSIRO Data Access Portal (DAP, https://data.csiro.au/dap/), providing access to participants and processors of the data collected in the voyage.\n\nAll voyage documentation is available electronically to MNF support via the local network. Access to voyage documentation for non-CSIRO participants can be made via NCMI_DataLibrarians@csiro.au.\nLineage: Data source: original field data obtained from raw data tapes and documentation. All data backup media and documentation were returned to CMAR Data Centre after this voyage.\n\nThis dataset has been processed and is archived within the CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research Data Centre in Hobart. Additional information regarding this dataset is contained in the voyage plan and voyage summary. The standard Underway (=continuously recorded) dataset from a research voyage includes Navigation (NAV), Sounder (PDR), Thermosalinograph (TSG) and Meteorological (MET) data. NAV data includes GPS (Global Positioning System) measurements of latitude, longitude, ship's direction and speed. MET data may include atmospheric temperature, humidity and pressure, wind speed and direction, and incident radiation intensity. Data are recorded at 10 second intervals.\n\nPDR: The transducer on the Southern surveyor is not the same one as was on the Franklin. Data quality was notably poorer especially in rougher weather and at depth. \nNAV: The Ashtech OEM gps receiver is far inferior than the GPS which was previously on the Franklin. Overheating was thought to have caused many data "dropouts". There were also many spurious values observed in the data.\nData processing and quality control: as per current CMR Datacentre standards.\n
