Literature searches were conducted using the following search strings: ("fish" OR "fishes" OR "teleost*") AND ("swim*" OR "movement*" OR "activit*" OR "locomoti*") AND ("turbid*" OR "transparen*" OR "suspended sediment*" OR "browni*"). The systematic search was performed in the ‘topic’ field on the Web of Science.
