Protection Management Areas

A Protection Management Area is an area which provides a representative example of the District’s original natural ecosystems, including indigenous habitat and indigenous species. The mapped Protection Management Areas are derived from relevant survey reports undertaken by the Department of Conservation for the National Protected Natural Areas Programme NPNAP). Information on the district’s Sites of Special Wildlife Interest has been included only where it coincides with PNAP survey information.
