Historic Context for the Mud Mountain Dam Project, King and Pierce Counties, Washington.
This report presents a historic context for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Mud Mountain Dam project, located on the White River in King and Pierce Counties, Washington. The historic context explores important historical themes associated with the dam site and immediate vicinity, including prehistoric use of the area with an emphasis on trade and transportation routes, Euroamerican settlement and land use, historical-period use of the Naches Pass Trail, and flood control efforts resulting in the construction and operation of Mud Mountain Dam. In addition, this study identifies expected property types associated with these themes and discusses the registration requirements for determining National Register of Historic Places eligibility. This ARRA funded Task Order employed 39 specialists.
