High-spatial resolution coherent x-ray imaging of nanoscale magnetic domains in CrI3 and Ni-doped Fe5GeTe2 2D ferromagnets

We propose to use soft x-ray holography at BL29 SXRS endstation to image with high resolution the magnetic domain configuration in two of the most current relevant Van-der-Waals 2D ferromagnetic materials, CrI3 which was the first isolated 2D ferromagnet (ref[1]), and Ni-doped Fe5GeTe2, recently reported by the UC Berkeley groups to be the highest Tc 2D ferromagnet known to date, with a critical temperature as high as 478K in the bulk(ref[2]). The main objective is to investigate the magnetic configuration and magnetization processes vs temperature, including the possible presence of chiral domains and topological magnetic states such as skyrmions, with sub ~25 nm spatial resolution.
