VPRS 12652 Outward Registered Correspondence (Inspector - General's Branch)

The Central Road Board (VA 2803) was established circa March 1853 with responsibility for the formation, construction, improvement, management and maintenance of proclaimed main roads and bridges and for the co-ordination of the works undertaken by the District Road Boards. The primary officers were the Secretary, Treasurer and an Inspector-General of Roads. The Central Road Board was abolished on 1 January 1858 and succeeded by the Department of Roads and Bridges (VA 2964) which operated under the statutory control of the Board of Land and Works (VA 744).This series consists of copies of the outward registered correspondence from the Inspector-Generals Branch regarding the works being undertaken under the Boards supervision with most of the correspondence being to the Road Engineers based at locations throughout Victoria and to the President and Secretary of the Board.VPRS 12652/P1 Units 1 to 3 and 5 were previously registered as Units 1 to 4 of VPRS 1125/P Letter and Memo Book, and Unit 4 was previously registered as Unit 4 of VPRS 1122/P Outward Unregistered Correspondence (from 2001 VPRS 1122 is registered as Outward Unregistered Correspondence (President)).
