An early automobile loaded at the back with sacks makes its way across the desert via two deep grooves in the sand, precisely the width apart of car wheels. A third, more narrow groove can be seen on the mound between them, probably worn by car axles. Although most of the terrain in the foreground is just sand, low-growing vegetation extends from three quarters of the way up the photo towards the horizon.
